Sustainability Through Education with French in Normandy IH Rouen

For French in Normandy IH Rouen, a French language school based in this historic city, sustainability is more than just a buzzword – it’s a way of life. Committed to building a greener future, the school has taken proactive steps to educate its students on ecological issues, ensuring that the next generation is prepared to tackle the environmental challenges that lie ahead. Let’s find out more about some of their recent sustainable initiatives.

Integrating ecological topics into the curriculum

French in Normandy IH Roeun was the first French language school to become a member of Green Standard Schools – an association of schools actively involved in the protection of the environment. In a bid to instil these eco-conscious values in its students, the school has integrated sustainable topics into its curriculum. This empowers learners to not only master the French language, but also develop a deep appreciation for the natural world. Through interactive lessons, thought-provoking discussions, and hands-on activities, students explore concepts such as resource conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable practices, equipping them with the knowledge to make a positive impact on their local and global communities.

Raising awareness with CycleForWater

In a recent endeavour, the school hosted a virtual event that brought together its students and the inspiring team behind CycleForWater, an association dedicated to raising awareness about the global water crisis. CycleForWater embarked on an ambitious 10,000 km bicycle ride from New Zealand to France, with the goal of promoting access to clean drinking water for 12,000 people in Southeast Asia. Through this collaboration, students gained invaluable insights into the challenges faced by communities lacking access to safe water resources, and learned about the association’s efforts to develop sustainable water projects that will improve the lives of people in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Cambodia.

These efforts by French in Normandy IH Rouen are evidence that their commitment to sustainability extends far beyond the classroom walls. By integrating eco-awareness into their programmes, the school is empowering its students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to create a greener future for all.
